The wire fill keeps hooves from getting caught and stops smaller animals pushing between the rails.

Tarter, building gates since 1945

Tarter began with a gate in 1945 and still builds its range around them, from the heavy-duty Bullmax series to Watchman, its gate for light confinement. Today Tarter also makes panels, feeders and livestock handling equipment, is ISO certified, and sells through a network of authorized dealers. Fenceweb is one of them.

The Watchman wire mesh gate

Watchman is Tarter's series for small herds, horses and smaller animals. Each gate has a 1-3/4" round steel tube frame, stands 50" tall and is filled with welded wire, so hooves stay out of harm's way and smaller stock cannot push between the rails.

Choosing a size

Tarter lists a gate by the opening it fits. The gate itself is about 3" shorter, to leave room for the hinges and a clean swing. Measure between your posts and order that size: 3' for a walk-through, 4' for a garden or paddock entrance, 6' where a mower or garden tractor has to pass.

Painted or galvanized

Painted gates in Green, Blue, Gray and Black have 2" x 4" 8-gauge wire fill and a corrosion-resistant finish. The galvanized gate, in 4' and 6', has graduated wire spacing, tighter toward the bottom, and a welded chain latch. It is the better choice in salty, coastal regions.

Ready to hang, backed by Tarter

Every Watchman gate ships with two 6" screw-in hinge pins and a snap chain, and its top and bottom hinges adjust for a left- or right-hand swing. Each gate carries a 1-year Tarter warranty, and Fenceweb ships them across the United States.
