Security

Perimeter security is everything that controls who and what can enter a site: a fence that is hard to climb or cut, bollards and barrier gates for vehicles, turnstiles and speed gates for people, and access control that opens the right gate for the right person. Fenceweb supplies these products for data centers, correctional facilities, utilities, schools and businesses. Read more

What is perimeter security?

Perimeter security protects an area against unauthorized entry. It works in layers: the fence marks and protects the boundary, the entrances control vehicles and people, and access control decides who may pass. A secure site needs all three layers to work together, because the strongest fence is only as good as its gates.

Security fence that resists climbing and cutting

Our 358 security fence panels have a 3" x 1/2" mesh. Fingers and toes find no grip in it, which makes it hard to climb, and the dense mesh is harder to cut than an open mesh. The panels are 8'3" wide and come in three versions:

  • Security fence Light: 8 GA horizontal and vertical wires.
  • Security fence Light Duo: double 8 GA horizontal wires with an 8 GA vertical wire.
  • Security fence Heavy Duo: double 8 GA horizontal wires with a 4 GA vertical wire, the heaviest version.

The panels mount on smooth 2-3/8" x 2-3/8" fence posts with security fence brackets and spider brackets in single and duo versions. For temporary perimeters, such as construction sites and events, the Capra temporary security fence comes in Straight, Boom and Y-Boom versions.

Bollards for vehicle protection

Our Bollards category has round bollards from 3.9" to 10.8" in diameter, an armored model, the Fortress Estate square steel bollard and two bollard control panels. Bollards stop vehicles from reaching a building, storefront or pedestrian area while people can still walk past.

Barrier gates for site entrances

The Barrier Gates category has hydraulic barrier gates with opening times from 3 to 19 seconds, plus barrier arms and receiver posts. A barrier gate lifts to let one vehicle through at a parking lot, depot or site entrance.

Turnstiles and speed gates for people

Turnstiles let one person pass at a time. Our Turnstiles category has tripod turnstiles from Turnstar and Digicon, Digicon full-height turnstiles for unmanned perimeter entrances, and swing arm models for accessible lanes. For lobbies, the Speed Gates category has the Digicon dGate SW and dTower swing door speed gates, which open after a valid credential and close behind each person.

Access control: intercoms, keypads and readers

The Access Control category holds the AES Global range: 4G cellular and IP video intercoms, keypads and proximity readers, wireless vehicle detectors, smart gate openers, electric gate locks and spare parts. Fenceweb is an authorized AES Global reseller for the United States, so the parts are original AES parts.

What does a complete perimeter include?

  • The fence line: panels, posts and brackets, with barbed wire on top where the site needs it.
  • Vehicle entrances: a gate or barrier gate, with bollards to protect buildings and equipment.
  • Pedestrian entrances: a turnstile, a speed gate or a gate with an electric lock.
  • Access control: intercoms for visitors, keypads and cards for staff, and vehicle detection for free exit.
  • Spare parts, so a failed board or battery does not leave an entrance out of service.

Choosing these layers together avoids gaps, such as a strong fence with an entrance anyone can walk through.

Who uses these products?

  • Data centers: security fence, turnstiles and access control around sensitive buildings.
  • Correctional facilities: anti-climb fence and controlled entrances.
  • Utilities: fenced substations and sites with controlled vehicle access.
  • Schools: controlled entrances, bollards and fencing.
  • Contractors and businesses: parking control, gate access and temporary fencing.

How do I plan a secure entrance?

  1. Define who enters: staff, visitors, deliveries, residents or the public.
  2. Separate vehicles and people: a barrier gate or gate for vehicles, a turnstile or speed gate for people.
  3. Choose how people prove access: an intercom call, a code, a proximity card or a remote.
  4. Add vehicle detection for free exit, and bollards where vehicles must be kept away.
  5. Make sure the fence line matches the security level of the entrances.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What is the most secure fence for a site?

A 358 security fence with a 3" x 1/2" mesh is hard to climb because fingers and toes find no grip, and the Heavy Duo version adds a 4 GA wire.

What is the difference between a bollard and a barrier gate?

A bollard is a strong post that blocks vehicles, often permanently. A barrier gate has an arm that lifts to let one vehicle through at a time.

Do I need a turnstile or a speed gate?

A turnstile is robust and suits staffed or outdoor entrances. A speed gate with swing doors suits lobbies where the entrance must look open and move people quickly.

Can access control be connected to my gates?

Yes. AES intercoms, keypads, receivers and gate openers switch a relay on the gate or barrier operator, and Digicon turnstiles such as the Catrax Plus accept a dry-contact release.

Do you supply data centers and correctional facilities?

Yes. Fenceweb supplies data centers, correctional facilities, schools, utilities and contractors with security fence, entrances and access control.

Do you deliver across the US?

Yes. Fenceweb delivers security fence, entrance products and access control to every US state and to Canada.
