The hinge post is the post the gate hinges mount on. It carries the full weight of the gate leaf and the forces of opening and closing, so it is the structural heart of every System Gate installation. The 80 x 80 mm section is the all-round section for most garden and yard gates.
Materials and finish
The post is a square steel tube of 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" with a wall thickness of 11 GA. Every version is hot-dip galvanized, and the coated versions are also powder coated in moss green RAL 6005, fir green RAL 6009, anthracite gray RAL 7016 or black RAL 9005, so post, leaf and fence match.

Choose the section to suit the leaf: the wider and taller the leaf, the larger the post. Then choose the length from the gate height plus 2'8".

Installation
The XL post is 7-7/8" longer than the standard post for the same gate height: 2'8" goes into the ground instead of 2', for taller leaves, exposed locations or soft ground. Set the post in concrete or quick-setting concrete, because a gate post must not move. Complete the gate with a System Gate leaf in the matching width, height and color, a latch post of the same section and length, and the System Gate parts set for a single or double gate.
