Double Gates

A driveway or a site entrance is often too wide for one leaf: a single leaf that long is heavy on its hinges and needs a big arc to swing open. Two leaves, each half the opening, swing apart from the middle and need half the swing space on each side. One leaf, the passive leaf, is pinned in place with a drop rod or drop bolt; the other latches to it.

The welded wire double gates are complete double gates for double wire mesh fences, in three widths, 10', 13' and 16', and three heights, 4', 6' and 8', in black RAL 9005. They are made to fit into the double wire panel system and match the double wire fence of the same height, so the gate lines up with the fence it stands in. Fortress drive gates are sold per leaf; a double gate takes two leaves. They come in the same lines as the Fortress fences:

• Versai steel: 6 ft 2-rail leaves and 3-rail leaves 6 ft or 8 ft wide, flat or arched, in heights up to 70". Versai Assurance closes the air space between the pickets to 3", for gardens where small children or pets play.
• V2 Commercial steel: 3-rail leaves 6 ft or 8 ft wide, flat or arched, in heights up to 94", also in an Assurance version.
• A2 Commercial aluminum: 6 ft leaves with 2, 3 or 4 rails, flat or arched, the 3-rail leaf in heights from 4 ft to 6 ft.
• Athens aluminum: 6 ft leaves with 2 or 3 rails, flat or arched, in heights from 3 ft to 6 ft.
• Estate: a 71" drive gate leaf with a welded ornamental steel frame and wood or composite pickets of 3/4" x 6", for privacy.

Fortress steel and aluminum gates are finished in gloss black. Many leaves come in top styles such as flat top, pressed spear and extended picket, and several are marked by Fortress as meeting the pool code at the pool-code heights.

A flat top leaf keeps the top rail straight, in line with the fence. An arched leaf has a curved top rail, which gives a driveway entrance a more formal look. Both are listed for most Fortress steel and aluminum lines; choose the same top style on both leaves.

1. Measure the clear opening between the two gate posts, at the top and at the bottom.
2. For Fortress, the width is nominal: the Versai 6 ft 2-rail leaf measures 70-1/2" outside the uprights. Allow for the hinges and the gap in the middle, and ask us to check the opening before you order.
3. Check the ground inside the swing of both leaves; a driveway that rises behind the gate may need uphill hinges or a sliding gate instead.
