Sports Fencing & Goals
Sport systems are the fences and goals that make a field or court playable and safe: sports fencing that keeps the ball in play and players and spectators apart, soccer goals and basketball goals. Choose the fencing by the sport, the height you need and how close people come to the fence, and the goals by the sport and the place they stand. Read more

What is in Sport Systems?
Sport Systems is split into three categories:
- Sports Fencing: fence panels for courts, pitches, playgrounds and multi-sport areas.
- Soccer Goal: goals for soccer and small-sided street soccer.
- Basketball Goal: goals for outdoor courts and recreational play.
Each category page lists the products we carry and their sizes. A product without a price on its page is sold on request, and a project with several parts is quoted as a whole.
Sports fencing in heavy double wire mesh
The Sports Fencing category carries the heavy double wire mesh panel. Each panel combines two horizontal 0 GA wires with one vertical 4 GA wire, welded at every crossing, which makes a rigid panel that resists bending, cutting and climbing while keeping a clean, open look.
- Mesh: 2" x 8".
- Panel width: 8'2".
- Heights: 4', 6' and 8'.
- Finishes: hot-dip galvanized, or galvanized and powder coated black RAL 9005.
The powder coating carries a 10-year warranty, and small scratches can be touched up with matching repair spray. Because the mesh is open, spectators keep a clear view of the game through the fence, and the fence keeps a clear line of sight for camera surveillance of the grounds.
Which height for a sports ground?
- 8': behind goals and along roads and parking areas, where balls must stay in.
- 6': along most sides of a court or pitch.
- 4': along spectator sides and around playgrounds, where a clear view matters more than stopping a ball.
The rebound panel, listed under Double Wire Fence, is a 0/4/0 GA panel 8' high and 8'2" wide in black, with the mesh closed down to 2" x 2-5/8" up to 2 ft from the bottom, where balls and players hit the fence. Where a ball stop must reach higher than the fence, tall 3-1/2" round posts come in 13', 16', 19' and 22' lengths.
Planning a fenced court or field
- Measure the area around the court or field, and mark where gates are needed for players, spectators and maintenance vehicles.
- Choose the fence height for each side: higher behind goals and along roads or parking areas where balls must stay in, lower along spectator sides.
- Keep one height along each side, so the top line stays level, and step the panels at the posts on sloping ground.
- Count panels by dividing each side by the panel width of 8'2" and rounding up, then add one post per panel plus one per run.
- Choose the finish: black RAL 9005 powder coat, or hot-dip galvanized for the plain zinc look.
Posts, gates and screening
The panel is sold on its own. You also need posts, brackets or clamp sets to suit the post system, post caps and, on hard surfaces, base plates. About 2 ft of each post goes into concrete or quick-setting concrete, so use an 8' post for a 6' fence and a 10' post for an 8' fence. Single gates 3, 4 or 5 ft wide and double gates 10, 13 or 16 ft wide fit straight into the double wire system, and weave-in privacy strips add screening where a court needs it.
Chain link for sports grounds
Many courts and fields are fenced with chain link instead. The 9 gauge galvanized chain link fabric is the heavy fabric of schools and sports grounds, up to 12 ft high, and green vinyl coated chain link blends into parks and sports fields. For chain link gates at tennis courts and sports grounds, the D&D LokkLatch Round S3 is a key-lockable latch made for round posts. You will find these in the Chain Link Fence and Gate Hardware categories.
Soccer goals and basketball goals
The Soccer Goal and Basketball Goal categories list the goals we carry, with their sizes and how they are fixed. Choose a goal by the sport and the age of the players, by whether it stands on grass or a hard court, and by how it will be anchored. For a school, a park or a club with several courts, send us the plan and we quote the goals and the fencing together.
Who we supply
Fenceweb supplies schools, contractors, utilities and homeowners, and delivers to every US state and to Canada. For a sports project, send the layout, the heights and the gates you need, and we quote the materials and the delivery.
Frequently asked questions
What fence is used around sports courts and fields?
A rigid welded mesh fence, such as the heavy double wire mesh panel in Sports Fencing, 4', 6' and 8' high, or 9 gauge galvanized chain link, up to 12 ft high.
Which height should a sports fence be?
8' behind goals and along roads where balls must stay in, 6' along most sides, and 4' where spectators need a clear view.
What finishes are available for sports fencing?
The double wire panel comes hot-dip galvanized, or galvanized and powder coated black RAL 9005.
Are posts included with the sports fence panels?
No. The panel is sold on its own; add posts, brackets or clamp sets, post caps and, on hard surfaces, base plates.
Can I add a gate to a sports fence?
