Which type of lock?
Surface mounted (standard)
The lock box sits on the outside of the profile. Easiest to fit and to service, and the widest range — from a small garden gate lock to an anti-panic lock for an escape route. This is the default for aluminum and steel gates.
Insert locks
The lock body slides inside the square tube, so nothing protrudes. You need a profile with the right internal dimension and a matching insert keep. FORTYLOCK and FIFTYLOCK are the common sets.
Code locks
A mechanical or battery-powered keypad and the lock in one housing. VINCI and FREE VINCI are mechanical; VALENTINO and LEONARDO are battery powered. No wiring, so they fit on a gate with no power nearby.
Electric and electromagnetic
An electric lock is released by a pulse from an intercom or keypad. An electromagnetic lock holds with a magnet and releases when the power drops — the choice for an escape route, because it is fail-safe by design.
Don't forget the other post
Every surface-mounted lock needs a keep on the opposite post, and most need a cylinder and a pair of handles. Locinox sells them separately and as matched sets; the set is cheaper than the sum of the parts.
