Gate Handle

A gate handle opens the latch of a gate lock. Most latch locks take a handle pair, one on each side, on a spindle that runs through the lock. Choose the handle that fits your lock brand and type, then the material and finish, or a push bar, pull handle or childproof knob for special uses. Read more

Handle pair or half handle?

  • A handle pair has a handle on each side of the gate, for a lock that opens from both sides.
  • A half handle sits on one side only, with a one-side spindle, for a gate that should open from one side.
  • Round knobs need a firm grip to turn, and childproof security knobs such as the Locinox Kidloc are harder still for small children to work.
  • Push bars, push handle sets and pull handle sets suit gates people push or pull through, such as exit gates or gates with an electromagnetic lock.

Locinox handles

Locinox handles carry a 3006 part number, which tells you the model:

  • Handle pairs in polyamide (3006P), aluminum (3006D, 3006M), anodized aluminum (3006J), black anodized aluminum (3006B), reinforced aluminum (3006S), stainless steel (3006I) and ornamental zamac (3006FAD16).
  • Club handle pairs in anodized aluminum (3006C) and black anodized aluminum (3006CB).
  • Versions marked -H, such as 3006J-H, 3006B-H, 3006D-H, 3006M-H and 3006I-H, are the handle pairs for insert locks.
  • Half handles such as 3006M-2, 3006C-2, the round knob 3006R-2 and the anti-panic 3006A-2.
  • Round knobs in aluminum (3006R) and black aluminum (3006RB).
  • Push bars for insert locks and for surface mounted locks, the 3006PUSH push handle set and the powder-coated 3006PULL pull handle set.
  • Handle sets in anodized aluminum with rounded corners, for fixed and rotating operation.

Blocking a handle

To stop a gate being opened from one side, the 3006BLOK blocking block locks one or both handles and the 3006KR set does the same for knobs. The SHROUD-PLATE-SA protection plate blocks access to the handle from outside.

Spindles

The spindle connects the handle to the lock. Locinox lists one-side spindles of 2-3/4" and 3-1/2", a split spindle of 4-3/4" for multifunctional handles and the triangular 3006T11 spindle. Choose the length by the thickness of the gate and lock.

Gatemaster handles

Gatemaster handles come in pairs with a 5/16" square spindle and fit Gatemaster bolt-on and weld-in latch locks, including the Superlock 2.0 and SelectPro latch locks:

  • Black lever handle: plain black levers for a simple, modern look.
  • Black traditional handle: a twisted pattern made to match decorative ironwork.
  • Octagon knob handle: solid cast iron, strong and vandal resistant.
  • Profiled gate handle: a minimalist, modern profile.
  • Stainless steel gate handle: a slightly rounded modern design.

Gatemaster also lists a security escutcheon to weld and a stainless steel escutcheon that protect the eurocylinder of a weld-in lock, and the stainless push-fit security collar that stops a gate being lifted off its hinges.

Which material should I choose?

Stainless steel handles suit gates that see a lot of weather or salt air, anodized and black anodized aluminum keep their finish without painting, and polyamide is a light option for garden gates. Match the finish of the lock and the gate for a tidy result.

Ordering

Gate handles are delivered to every US state and to Canada. Check the lock brand and model before you order: Locinox handles are made for Locinox locks and Gatemaster handles for Gatemaster latch locks.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Which handle fits my gate lock?

Choose a handle from the same brand as the lock: Locinox 3006 handles for Locinox locks, with the -H versions for insert locks, and Gatemaster handles for Gatemaster latch locks.

Do handles come with a spindle?

Gatemaster handle pairs come with a 5/16" square spindle; for Locinox handles, check the product page and order one-side, split or triangular spindles where needed.

What is a split spindle used for?

Locinox lists its split spindles for multifunctional handles, in 3-1/2" and 4-3/4" lengths; check the lock and handle page for the spindle it needs.

Which handle material suits a coastal area?

Stainless steel handles, such as the Locinox 3006I or the Gatemaster stainless steel gate handle, resist salt air better than painted parts.

Can I stop a gate being opened from one side?

Yes. Fit a half handle, block a handle with the 3006BLOK blocking block, or fit the SHROUD-PLATE-SA protection plate on the outside.
