Gate Keep

A gate keep, also called a strike, is the part on the post that the bolt or latch of a gate lock closes into. The keep must match the lock and the post: surface mounted keeps for surface locks, insert keeps for insert locks, and special keeps for round profiles, wooden posts, pool gates and sliding gates. Electric strikes and releases add access control. Read more

What is a gate keep?

When a gate closes, the latch or bolt of the lock has to land in something solid on the post. That is the keep. A good keep holds the gate in line, takes the force when someone pushes or pulls on the gate and, on a security keep, stops the gate being levered away from the post. Many gate locks are sold without a keep, so check the product page of the lock and order the keep with it.

Matching the keep to your lock

Locinox keeps are named for the locks they fit:

  • SFKP insert keep in polyamide, SFKI insert keep in stainless steel and SFKM surface mounted keep in stainless steel, for Fortylock, Fiftylock and Sixtylock insert locks, plus a surface mounted keep strike for the same locks.
  • Insert keeps for insert locks, and an insert keep for insert locks with a code lock.
  • A stainless steel surface mounted keep for surface mounted locks, and a flat ornamental keep.
  • The H-Compact keep in stainless steel for the handleless H-Compact lock.

Gatemaster keeps work across the Superlock range: the Superlock Secure Keep fixes to the post with expanding fasteners, and the Superlock Gapless Keep fits between the gate and the post as both a gate stop and a strike for any Gatemaster latch lock.

Keeps for round, wooden and pool gate posts

  • The Locinox garden gate keep in polyamide is made for round profiles.
  • The H-Wood hybrid keep is made for wooden posts.
  • The Twist40 swimming pool keep fits square profiles and goes with the Twist40 pool gate lock.
  • The Gatemaster Superlock Round Bar Adapter, in stainless steel, fits a Superlock and its keep to round bar gates and round posts, such as chain link gates.

Keeps for sliding gates

A sliding gate lock closes sideways into its keep. The Locinox SSKZ sliding gate keep with Quick-Fix goes with the Sixtylock-LS insert lock for sliding gates.

Security keeps and shrouds

  • The Gatemaster security keep with interlocking tab has a tongue that passes through the gate bracket, so the gate cannot be levered away from the post.
  • Quick exit security shrouds for Superlock and SelectPro stop intruders reaching round the gate to work a quick exit lock from outside. The SelectPro shroud bolts on in front of the lock with no welding and no extra holes.
  • The Superlock Delta handle security shroud protects the inside lever handle against tampering from outside.

Electric strikes, releases and maglocks

  • Locinox electric strikes: Modulec SE for surface mounted locks, and SEH for H-Metal and H-Wood insert locks.
  • The Gatemaster ERHDM electric release is mortised into the gate frame, has an integral switch that confirms the gate is closed, and converts between fail safe and fail secure.
  • The Gatemaster gate maglock system is a kit with a stainless steel maglock holding 1,202 lb, a status switch and pull handles, worked by a separate keypad, switch or proximity fob.

Quieter gates and spare parts

The Gatemaster bump stop is a noise damper that screws into the gate stop, and the gate silencer kit bolts to the post so the gate closes quietly. The isolating spacer set puts rubber plates between a Superlock and an aluminum gate. The Superlock fixing kit suits gate frames from 1-9/16" to 2-3/8", the Superlatch extension kit fits the Digital Superlatch to gates up to 5-1/2" thick, and the DRA latchbolt, issue 5, is a genuine spare part.

Ordering

Gate keeps are delivered to every US state and to Canada. Check the lock name or part number before you order, so the keep matches.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate keep for my gate lock?

Often yes. Many gate locks are sold without a keep, so check the lock page and order the keep that names your lock, such as the SFKP or SFKI for a Fortylock, Fiftylock or Sixtylock.

Which keep fits a round post?

The Locinox polyamide garden gate keep is made for round profiles, and the Gatemaster Superlock Round Bar Adapter fits a Superlock and its keep to round posts and round bar gates.

Can I fit a keep to a wooden post?

Yes. The Locinox H-Wood hybrid keep is made for wooden posts and goes with the H-Wood insert lock for wooden gates.

What is a security shroud?

A plate fitted in front of a quick exit lock or a lever handle, so nobody can reach round the gate from outside and operate the lock.

Which keep works with a sliding gate lock?

The Locinox SSKZ sliding gate keep with Quick-Fix goes with the Sixtylock-LS insert lock for sliding gates.

What does the Gatemaster electric release do?

It is mortised into the gate frame and releases the lock electrically, with a switch that confirms the gate is closed; it converts between fail safe and fail secure.
