Self Closing Hinges

A self-closing hinge has a closer built in: a spring, or a hydraulic unit, that brings the gate back to the closed position. Paired with a self-latching latch, it makes sure a gate is shut and latched after every use, which is what most US pool codes ask for. All the hinges on this page are from D&D Technologies.

TruClose hinges are made from polymer and stainless steel, so they will not rust, bind, sag or stain, and the closing tension adjusts from either end. Choose by gate weight and material:

• TruClose Regular: gates up to 66 lb, in versions for metal gates, wood gates and metal-to-wood gates.
• TruClose Heavy Duty: gates up to 154 lb, for metal, aluminum, wood and vinyl gates, and a version with wide leaves for heavy wood gates on wood posts.
• TruClose Multi-Adjust Heavy Duty Series 3: three-way adjustable, with dials for horizontal and vertical position, for vinyl and composite gates or for wood, up to 154 lb.
• TruClose Mini Multi-Adjust: up to 55 lb, in a Regular version and a Round version for chain link gates.
• TruClose Round Heavy Duty: for round posts and gate frames, with adaptors for most diameters.
• TruClose DECOmould: a decorative self-closing T-hinge for wood and vinyl gates up to 55 lb.

TruClose safety caps cover the tension adjuster on Series 3 hinges, so the closing force cannot be backed off: the part pool and child safety gates are specified with.

SureClose hinge-closers use hydraulics, so the gate closes at a controlled speed:

• SureClose Center Mount: internally mounted, opens to 180 degrees, self-closes from 85 degrees, for aluminum gates up to 260 lb, with plain hinges to match. A Safety Gates version self-closes from 90 degrees without holding open.
• SureClose Flush Mount: flush-mounted for aluminum gates with a 1/2" hinge gap, up to 260 lb, with adjustable force and speed, also in a Safety Gates version.
• SureClose ReadyFit 108: externally mounted, with a controlled, quiet close and a final snap action, for gate gaps of 1/2" to 1-3/8", also with a safety feature.
• SureClose ConcealFit: a concealed hinge-closer system for gates up to 220 lb, with no exposed parts and adjustable closing speed, latching speed and backcheck.
• SureClose Easy: an add-on closer on top of the gate that works with most center-mounted hinges, for aluminum gates up to 180 lb.

Post mounting brackets complete Center Mount and Flush Mount installations, because only the gate brackets come with the hinge. Kits, weld boxes, a drill jig and receivers are listed too.

The ShutIT weld-on face mount self-closing hinge set gives a steel gate a full 180 degree opening, with 5 tension settings, gate gaps as small as 1/2" and a closing capacity of 287 lb per set. The SlimLine DC622G is a hydraulic vertical gate closer with a slim body, mounted on a pillar or wall on the push or pull side of the gate, for face or center mounted hinges, in left and right opening versions.

Most gates hang on a pair of hinges, and TruClose and KwikFit hinges are sold as a pair. SureClose kits combine a hinge-closer with a matching plain hinge, and ReadyFit bracket kits combine two hinge-closers or a hinge-closer with a plain hinge.
