Composite Fence Posts

Composite fence posts are grooved aluminum posts that hold the slats of a Gardenode Equinox fence. Choose the 2-3/4" x 2" post for lower runs or the 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post for taller runs, and add a post insert for a fence taller than 70-7/8". Read more

Which Equinox post do I need?

Post 2-3/4" x 2"

The lighter upright for lower runs. It comes in lengths from 3'2-5/8" to 7'10-1/2", with a clip included. Choose the length that matches the height of your fence plus the part that goes into the ground, or the length for a base plate.

Post 3-1/8" x 3-1/8"

The top-of-the-range upright of the Equinox slat fence, in lengths from 6'2" to 10'6". A cap and a clip come with every post.

Aluminum post insert

The insert is 39-3/8" long and slides into a post to stiffen it, for a fence taller than 70-7/8".

Colors

Both posts are powder coated in Anthracite Gray RAL 7016, Quartz Gray RAL 7039, Black RAL 9005 or Teak, the same colors as the Equinox rails, caps and profiles.

Start, end and line posts

Every Equinox post has grooves for the slats. On a line post, slats come in from both sides. On a start or end post one groove stays open; the aluminum post clip closes it for a clean finish. Against a wall, use the starter profile instead of a post. For a corner between 45 and 135 degrees, the variable angle profile set joins two runs.

Setting posts in concrete or on a base plate

  • In the ground: set the post in concrete, plumb and at the right spacing for a 70-7/8" bay.
  • On a slab, deck or low wall: stand the post on a steel base plate with four screws. The plate is 4-3/4" x 3-7/8" for the smaller post and 5-1/8" x 5-1/8" for the larger one.
  • A base plate with a cover that hides the fixings is available for the 2-3/4" x 2" post.

Post caps and clips

Aluminum caps are made for both post sizes. One cap comes with every 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post, so the separate cap is a spare. Clips are included with both posts and are also sold separately in two lengths.

Spacing between posts

The slats, rails and braces of the Equinox system are 70-7/8" long, so the posts are spaced to take one bay between them. Measure the whole run, divide it into bays and add one post more than the number of bays on a straight run.

Why aluminum posts

Aluminum does not rust or rot, and the powder coat gives an even color. Fenceweb delivers the Equinox posts to every US state and to Canada.

Frequently asked questions

Which post size do I need for a composite fence?

The 2-3/4" x 2" post suits lower runs. The 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post suits taller runs, with lengths up to 10'6".

When do I need a post insert?

For a fence taller than 70-7/8". The 39-3/8" aluminum insert slides into the post and stiffens it.

Can composite fence posts be mounted on concrete?

Yes. Steel base plates with four screws stand the posts on a slab, deck or low wall, in sizes for both post profiles.

How far apart do the posts go?

One bay apart. The slats and rails are 70-7/8" long, so the posts are set 72-7/8" apart on center, leaving one slat length between them.

Do the posts come with a cap?

The 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post comes with a cap and a clip. The 2-3/4" x 2" post comes with a clip; its cap is sold separately.
