Highlights

Grooved Equinox posts
The slats slide into the grooves of the 2-3/4" x 2" or 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post.

Routed Fortress posts
Athens and A2 line, end, corner and blank posts, routed for the rails.

Insert for tall fences
A 39-3/8" aluminum insert stiffens the post on fences above 70-7/8".

Concrete or base plate
Set the post in concrete, or bolt it to a slab on a steel base plate.
Which post does my fence need?
The post follows the fence. A Gardenode slat fence stands on grooved posts that hold the slats; a Fortress picket fence stands on posts routed for the rails of its panels. Choose the system first, then the role of the post and its length.
Gardenode Equinox posts
- 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post: Gardenode's top-of-the-range post, in lengths from 6'2" to 10'6", supplied with a cap and a clip.
- 2-3/4" x 2" post: the lighter post, in lengths from 3'2" to 7'10", supplied with a clip; order its cap separately.
- Post insert: a 39-3/8" aluminum insert that stiffens the post; Gardenode recommends it for fences above 6 ft.
- Colors: anthracite gray, quartz gray, black and teak, to match the slats.
Fortress Athens and A2 posts
Fortress posts are routed for the rails of their style: a line post on two opposite sides, an end post on one side and a corner post on two adjacent sides; a blank post has no routing. Choose the post by line, style, number of rails and fence height.
- Athens: 2" posts with a 0.060" or 0.125" wall and 2-1/2" posts with a 0.125" wall, in lengths from 5 to 8 ft.
- A2: 2-1/2" posts with a 0.060" or 0.125" wall and 3" posts with a 0.125" wall, in lengths from 6 to 8 ft.
Setting aluminum posts
Set posts in concrete, plumb and in line. For Gardenode, dig a hole about 16" square and 20" deep and space the posts 72-7/8" on center; on a slab or low wall, bolt each post to a steel base plate and keep the fence to 5'3" for wind load. For Fortress, set the posts at the panel width as you fit each panel. Your soil and frost depth decide the final depth.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a line, end and corner post?
Where it is routed for the rails. A line post takes a panel on two opposite sides, an end post on one side and a corner post on two adjacent sides. A blank post has no routing.
Which Gardenode post should I choose?
The 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post for tall or exposed fences, up to 10'6" long; the 2-3/4" x 2" post for lighter runs. Both take the same slats.
Do aluminum posts come with a cap?
The Gardenode 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" post comes with a cap and a clip; the 2-3/4" x 2" post comes with a clip and its cap is sold separately. Fortress caps are listed with each post.
How deep do aluminum fence posts go?
For Gardenode, a hole about 16" square and 20" deep filled with concrete. Your soil and local frost depth decide the final depth for every system.
Can aluminum posts be mounted on concrete?
Yes. Gardenode posts bolt to a steel base plate on a slab or low wall; keep such a fence to 5'3" tall for wind load.
When do I need a post insert?
Gardenode recommends an insert in the post for fences above 6 ft. The insert is 39-3/8" long and stiffens the post where the wind load is greatest.
