Gatemaster Superhinge: an adjustable hinge for heavy metal gates
The Superhinge is an adjustable hinge for heavy metal gates. The gate hangs on a threaded section with a nut on each side, so its position can be adjusted after it is hung.
Durability
In a wear test on a 441 lb gate, a hook and eye hinge was worn after 28,000 openings and a C type hinge after 25,000, while the Superhinge was still working after 500,000 openings.
Sizes
Three thread sizes are available: M20 (SH20), M24 (SH25) and M30 (SH30). The heavier the gate, the larger the thread you choose.
Installation
With the hinge still assembled, weld the two lugs to the gate post, undo the break-off nut and take the hinge apart. Drill a hole through the gate frame to suit the thread. Once the gate has been galvanized or painted, reassemble the hinge without the sacrificial 0.071" washer and tighten the break-off nut until the hex snaps off. Hang the gate on the threaded section with a nut on each side and adjust as required.

Frequently asked questions
Will it survive outdoors all year?
It is built for it. The bodies are pressure die-cast and powder-coated, latchbolts are stainless steel and the keypads are marine grade, so salt air and rain are not a problem. Follow the maintenance schedule on this page - a spray of light oil a few times a year is what keeps a gate lock feeling new after a decade outside.
What warranty comes with this product?
Gatemaster gives a 5-year warranty on the Superlock 2.0 range and a manufacturer's warranty on the rest of the program, covering defects in material and workmanship. Keep your invoice: that is the proof of purchase a claim is assessed on. Damage from forcing, from the wrong installation or from missed maintenance is not covered - which is why the maintenance schedule on this page is worth following.
Is this in stock and how fast can I get it?
Gatemaster hardware is part of our standard program, so the common versions ship from stock. If you need a quantity for a project, or you are not sure which version fits your gate, ask us for a quote - we will check the frame size and handing with you before anything is picked.
How heavy a gate will this hinge carry?
The Superhinge is sized by its thread: the heavier the gate, the larger the thread you choose. Work from the finished weight of the leaf including infill and any cladding, not the frame alone, and use two hinges as a minimum. On tall or clad gates a third hinge spreads the load and keeps the gate from dropping over time.
What types of fencing products does Fenceweb offer?
Fenceweb offers a complete range of fencing products, including welded wire fence panels, chain link fence, ornamental and metal fencing, security fencing, fence posts, swing and farm gates, gate hardware and temporary fencing. We also carry trusted brands such as Locinox, Gatemaster, ZND, AES Global, D&D Technology and Tarter.
Are all products in stock and ready for shipment?
