Gatemaster stop hinge with bottom pivot: a hinge and gate stop in one

This durable hinge kit is designed for welding to gates and has an integral stop, so the gate does not open more than 100 degrees. A patent is pending on the design.

Safety

Because the stop is built into the hinge, no stop has to be fitted into the ground, which reduces trip hazards. Limiting the opening to 100 degrees also keeps gaps to a minimum and reduces pinch points.

Adjustment and handing

Both the top and the bottom hinge can be adjusted for precise fitting on site, and the gate pivot can be set in the center of the gate stile. The top hinge can be changed between left and right-hand gates by turning over one of its plates.

Installation

Weld the slotted adjusting bracket to the post near the top and the spigot to the top of the gate, lining up the pivot center with the bottom pivot. For the bottom hinge, weld the bracket to the post and the pivot to the bottom of the gate. Once the gate is galvanized or painted, drop the hinge onto the spigot, bolt it to the bracket and grease the unit.

Installation

  1. 1Take the slotted adjusting bracket off the hinge and weld it to the gate post near the top. Weld the spigot to the top of the gate, making sure the center of the pivot lines up vertically with the bottom pivot - the small cut-out in the underside of the spigot marks the pivot center.
  2. 2Once the gate is galvanized or painted, drop the hinge onto the spigot and bolt it to the bracket with the fixings supplied. The slots in the bracket let you adjust the gate. Grease the unit when you fit it.
  3. 3For the bottom hinge, simply weld the bracket to the post and the pivot to the bottom of the gate; once galvanized it can be lined up with the top hinge.
  4. 4To change the handing of the top hinge, take the two bolts out of the hinge and remove the first two U-shaped plates and the round plate. Take out the last plate, turn it over and reassemble the unit. The gate can then swing 90 degrees the other way.

Frequently asked questions

Will it survive outdoors all year?

It is built for it. The bodies are pressure die-cast and powder-coated, latchbolts are stainless steel and the keypads are marine grade, so salt air and rain are not a problem. Follow the maintenance schedule on this page - a spray of light oil a few times a year is what keeps a gate lock feeling new after a decade outside.

What warranty comes with this product?

Gatemaster gives a 5-year warranty on the Superlock 2.0 range and a manufacturer's warranty on the rest of the program, covering defects in material and workmanship. Keep your invoice: that is the proof of purchase a claim is assessed on. Damage from forcing, from the wrong installation or from missed maintenance is not covered - which is why the maintenance schedule on this page is worth following.

Is this in stock and how fast can I get it?

Gatemaster hardware is part of our standard program, so the common versions ship from stock. If you need a quantity for a project, or you are not sure which version fits your gate, ask us for a quote - we will check the frame size and handing with you before anything is picked.

Can I change the hinge from left to right hand?

Yes. Take the two bolts out of the top hinge, remove the first two U-shaped plates and the round plate, take out the last plate, turn it over and reassemble the unit. The gate can then swing 90 degrees the other way.
