Gate Locks
A gate lock keeps a gate shut and opens only with a key, a code or a push pad from the inside. Surface mounted and bolt-on locks fit on the face of the gate, insert and mortise locks sit inside the gate profile, and sliding gate locks are made for gates that roll. Choose by gate type, profile size and how people should get in and out. Read more

Which type of gate lock do I need?
- Surface mounted and bolt-on locks fix to the face of the gate frame, often through three drilled holes, so they suit new gates and retrofits alike.
- Insert and mortise locks fit inside a box section profile, for a slim, recessed look and fixings that are hard to reach.
- Weld-in locks have a case welded into a steel gate that is galvanized or powder coated with the gate; the mechanism slides in afterwards.
- Sliding gate locks close into a keep on the post when a rolling gate is slid shut.
- Code locks open with a keypad instead of a key, and quick exit locks open from the inside with a push pad.
Locinox gate locks
Locinox locks in this category include surface mounted gate locks in large and small ornamental, anti-panic and industrial versions, and a surface mounted sliding gate lock. The insert locks are named for the profile they fit:
- Fortylock: 13/16" backset, for profiles from 1-9/16".
- Fiftylock: 1-3/16" backset, for profiles from 2".
- Sixtylock: 1-9/16" backset, for profiles from 2-3/8", with Sixtylock-A as the multi-functional version.
- Seventylock-A: multi-functional, 2" backset.
- Sixtylock-S, Sixtylock-LS and Fiftylock-LS: insert locks for sliding gates, with their matching keeps.
- H-Metal, H-Metal-WB for a welding box, H-Wood in stainless steel for wooden gates, and the handleless stainless H-Compact with a hook.
For pools there is the Twist40 swimming pool gate lock.
Code locks without keys
Locinox code locks come as the mechanical Vinci and the battery powered Valentino, both surface mounted, the Volta with an external battery keypad, and the mechanical Leonardo for sliding gates. Gatemaster code locks, including the Superlock 2.0 RapidReset and SelectPro ranges, use a mechanical keypad and need no power; on RapidReset models the code can be changed in about ten seconds without taking the lock off the gate. The Gatemaster Digital Superlatch has a 14-button mechanical keypad, locks automatically when the gate closes and fits gates up to 2-15/16" thick with its standard fixings.
Gatemaster bolt-on, mortise and quick exit locks
- SelectPro and Superlock bolt-on locks come in two sizes, for gate frames from 3/8" to 1-3/16" and from 1-9/16" to 2-3/8".
- Quick exit locks latch shut when the gate closes and open from the inside with a push pad, with key or keypad entry from outside, or with no outside access at all.
- The long throw keylatch locks every time the gate is shut and opens only with a key, for communal gates.
- Narrow autolocking latch, deadlock, latch deadlock and hook lock models are slim mortise locks for box section bigger than 1-9/16" x 1-9/16"; the autolocking latch, deadlock and hook lock come with a 2-3/8" eurocylinder.
- The mortise hook lock is made entirely of stainless steel with a brass latch and was tested to 1,000,000 openings.
- The screw-fixed locks for gates up to 1" and 2-3/8" thick have a long throw deadbolt that suits wooden gates, which expand and contract with the weather.
- For sliding gates, the hook lock and digital lock kit welds a steel case into the gate for a code lock.
Cylinders
Insert and surface locks take a cylinder, ordered separately. The range covers fixed and adjustable lengths, each named on its product page, half and knob cylinders, a dummy cylinder, a triangular cylinder set for triangle keys, the rekeyable KIK cylinder and the Luky mortise cylinder set. Measure the lock and gate thickness before you choose the length.
Keeps, handles and accessories
Most locks need a keep on the post, and latch locks need a handle pair. Order them from Gate Keep and Gate Handle; Locinox keeps are named for the locks they fit, such as the SFKP, SFKI and SFKM keeps for Fortylock, Fiftylock and Sixtylock. Battery packs for Valentino, Vera and Volta are listed here too.
Ordering
Gate locks are delivered to every US state and to Canada. A lock shown without a price on its product page is sold on request.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a surface mounted and an insert lock?
A surface mounted lock fixes to the face of the gate frame, while an insert lock fits inside the box section profile, so it is slimmer and its fixings are hidden.
How do I choose an insert lock for my gate profile?
Measure the width of the gate profile: Fortylock fits profiles from 1-9/16", Fiftylock from 2" and Sixtylock from 2-3/8".
Can I use a code lock instead of a key?
Yes. Locinox Vinci and Leonardo and the Gatemaster Superlock and SelectPro code locks are mechanical and need no power; Valentino and Volta are battery powered.
Which lock works on a sliding gate?
Use a lock made for sliding gates, such as the Locinox Sixtylock-S, Sixtylock-LS, Fiftylock-LS or Leonardo, or a Gatemaster sliding gate code lock.
What is a quick exit gate lock?
A lock that latches when the gate closes and opens from the inside with a push pad, so people can leave quickly, while entry from outside needs a key or a code.
Do gate locks come with a cylinder and keep?
Check the product page: insert and surface locks often need a cylinder and a keep ordered separately, while some locks include them, such as the Gatemaster narrow autolocking latch, supplied with a eurocylinder and three keys.
