Temporary Fence
Temporary fence is free-standing fencing that sets up without digging: panels stand in weighted stands and join with couplers or clamps. Choose ZND anti-climb mesh or TempFence chain-link panels, 6 ft or 8 ft high and 12 ft wide, pedestrian barriers for crowds, and add gates, stabilizers, weights and privacy covers. Read more

Pedestrian barriers for queues, events and work zones.

Screens and gates
Privacy covers, reflective strips and gate kits finish the site.
What is temporary fence?
Temporary fence closes off a construction site, an event or a work zone for days, months or a whole project, and then moves on to the next job. Nothing is dug in: each panel stands in a stand, neighboring panels are clamped together, and stabilizers and weights keep the line upright in the wind.
The five subcategories
Panels
ZND Installer Pro, Plus and Max panels with anti-climb welded wire mesh, and TempFence Wholesale chain-link panels, 6 ft or 8 ft high and 12 ft wide, plus a TempFence pedestrian gate.
Pedestrian Barrier
Short steel barriers for crowd lines and work zones: ZND bar barriers on separate feet and fixed leg barriers, in lightweight and heavy duty, and the TempFence steel crowd control barricade.
Accessories
Everything that holds a run together and finishes it: stands, couplers and clamps, stabilizers, weights, gate parts, covers, reflective strips and storage stillages.
Mobile Fence
A selection for setups that move often: ZND panels, barriers, tube stands and gate parts, including a ZND pedestrian gate.
Temporary Soundproof Fence
Noise reduction for building sites and events, where a fixed sound barrier is not an option.
Welded mesh or chain link panels?
ZND panels have anti-climb welded wire mesh with tight vertical wire spacing, welded into the frame with SmartWeld construction. The mesh keeps its shape through many rental cycles, and a damaged weld can be repaired with a standard spot welder. TempFence chain-link panels have galvanized chain-link mesh wire-laced to a galvanized tube frame, built to be delivered, set up, taken down and moved again and again. The 6 ft TempFence panel has a center vertical brace, and the 8 ft panel a vertical and a horizontal brace.
ZND Installer Pro, Plus and Max
- Installer Pro: the ST612V.LW lightweight panel, 6 ft x 12 ft at 34.6 lb, light enough for one person to set.
- Installer Plus: square-top panels for active job sites and repeat rentals, set by a two-person crew.
- Installer Max: ZND's heaviest series, with round-top frames, for busy, public-facing and long-term sites.
Stands, couplers and stabilizers
For a straight run of ZND panels, plan one more tube stand than you have panels, because each joint and both ends sit in a stand. Couplers clamp each pair of panels together: the standard coupler, heavy-duty Griplock and Gripper couplers, and a ring coupler for awkward angles and uneven ground. On long, exposed or wind-facing stretches, add stabilizers, Z-Block weights or Windbreaker stabilizer systems. Anti-lift brackets hold panels down on their stands so nobody can lift a panel out.
TempFence panels sit in a 3 ft x 1 ft steel stand with two welded pegs for the panel posts, in galvanized, orange or yellow. A clamp and bolt joins two panel posts, and a security clamp uses a bolt that only the matching socket tool turns. A 45 lb gravel bag weighs a stand down against wind and knocks.
Covers, screens and visibility
ZND fence covers are HDPE privacy screens 50 ft long, 5'8" high for 6 ft panels and 7'8" for 8 ft panels, in black, green or blue. They block about 85% of the view. TempFence privacy screen comes in 100 ft rolls, 6 ft or 8 ft high, in black, forest green or tan, closed onto the chain link with hog rings. A screen catches wind, so add ballast once it goes on. Reflective strips 12 ft long, orange-white or red-white, mark the fence line in low light.
Gates for temporary fence
ZND gate hinge couplers let a panel swing as a gate; a swing gate needs four. A two-part gate latch with room for a padlock keeps it closed, and the gate wheel assembly carries its weight so it does not drag. TempFence makes a 4 ft wide pedestrian chain-link gate in the 6 ft or 8 ft height of the panels, with its own gate hinge and gate wheel.
Pedestrian barriers
ZND Lightweight and Heavy Duty bar barriers and fixed leg barriers are 7'6" wide and 3'9" high: the pre-galvanized lightweight version is light enough for one person to carry, and the hot-dip galvanized heavy duty version suits lines that are moved and set again many times. The ZND Fixed Leg Barrier ECO is 8'6" x 3'4" and post-galvanized. The TempFence crowd control barricade is 7 ft x 3'6", hot-dip galvanized, with fixed feet and interlocking ends.
Temporary security fence from Capra
For sites that need security fence that can still move, Capra temporary security fence elements stand on a 1,874 lb concrete base, are moved with a forklift and interlock with each other. They suit construction sites, ports, storage areas and venues whose layout changes.
Where temporary fence is used
- Construction and demolition sites: an anti-climb perimeter that moves as the work moves.
- Events, festivals and sports: crowd lines with pedestrian barriers, and covered fence around back-of-house areas.
- Utilities and road works: work zones closed off for days or weeks.
- Data centers and other secure sites under construction: anti-lift brackets and lockable couplers on a closed perimeter.
- Rental companies: panels built for repeat setups, with stillages for storage.
How many panels, stands and couplers do I need?
- Measure the perimeter and divide by 12 ft for the number of panels.
- Add one stand per panel, plus one to close each straight run.
- Add one coupler or clamp per joint, and the gate parts for each opening.
- Add stabilizers or weights for wind, and more again if covers go on, because a screened fence catches far more wind than open mesh.
Storage and delivery
The ZND universal fence panel stillage holds 35 panels as one load, and the barrier stillage holds 25 barriers, so a fleet can be stacked, moved with a forklift and stored. Fenceweb delivers temporary fence to every US state and to Canada.
Frequently asked questions
How is temporary fence installed without digging?
Each panel stands in a weighted stand and is clamped to the next panel with a coupler. Stabilizers and weights keep the line upright, so no holes are needed.
Which temporary fence panel is anti-climb?
The ZND Installer Pro, Plus and Max panels have anti-climb welded wire mesh with tight vertical wire spacing.
How do I keep temporary fence from blowing over?
Add stabilizers, Z-Block weights or a Windbreaker stabilizer system on long or exposed runs, and more ballast once a privacy cover is fitted.
What is the difference between a fence panel and a pedestrian barrier?
A temporary fence panel is a 6 ft or 8 ft high perimeter panel. A pedestrian barrier is a short steel barrier for guiding crowds and closing off work zones.
Can I add a privacy screen to temporary fence?
Yes. ZND fence covers block about 85% of the view, in sizes for 6 ft and 8 ft panels and in black, green or blue. TempFence screen comes in 100 ft rolls.
Do you have a gate for temporary fence?
Yes. ZND gate hinge couplers turn a panel into a swing gate, with a two-part latch and a wheel assembly. TempFence offers a 4 ft chain-link pedestrian gate.
How heavy is a temporary fence panel?
The ZND Installer Pro ST612V.LW panel weighs 34.6 lb, light enough for one person. Installer Plus and Max panels are heavier and set by two people.
