Gate Hardware
Gate hardware is every part that makes a gate hang, close and lock: hinges, a closer, a latch or lock with its keep and handles, and a drop bolt for double gates. Choose by gate material and profile size, by gate weight and use, and by the rules that apply, such as self-closing and self-latching gates around a pool. Read more

What hardware does a gate need?
A working gate needs four things, and this category is organized around them:
- Something to hang on: hinges, or self-closing hinges.
- Something to close it: a self-closing hinge or a separate gate closer, if the gate must shut by itself.
- Something to hold it shut: a latch, a lock with its keep and handles, or a magnetic lock.
- On a double gate, something to pin the second leaf: a drop bolt.
The brands are Locinox, Gatemaster, D&D Technologies, Fortress and AES Global, each with its own system of matching parts.
Gate Hinge
Gate Hinge holds weld-on, bolt-on and screw-on hinges for light garden gates up to heavy industrial gates. D&D Technologies Shut It BadAss hinges carry gates from 300 lb (Baby BadAss) up to 1,500 lb (Heavy-Duty BadAss), with bolt-on versions where welding is not an option. Locinox adds adjustable hinges, 180 degree hinges such as Dino and Puma, and the Excentro hinge set for ascending slopes. Gatemaster gate restrainers stop a gate falling if a hinge fails.
Self Closing Hinges
Self Closing Hinges are D&D Technologies hinges that swing a gate shut on their own. TruClose spring hinges close gates up to 66 lb (Regular) or 154 lb (Heavy Duty), and SureClose hydraulic hinge-closers add speed control for aluminum gates up to 260 lb. TruClose safety caps cover the tension adjuster so the closing force cannot be backed off.
Gate Closer
Gate Closer holds Locinox hydraulic closers that pull a gate shut at a controlled speed: hinge and closer in one such as Mammoth, Tiger and Caracal, the invisible built-in Interio, all-round closers such as Panther and Verticlose-2, the compact Lion, and Samson-2 for large gates, with brackets, adaptor plates and drilling jigs.
Gate Latch and Pool Gate Latch
Gate Latch covers self-latching and manual latches: D&D LokkLatch key-lockable latches, MagnaLatch magnetic latches, T-Latch, Wood Hardware gravity, loop and thumb latches for timber gates, and Fortress fork, gravity and slide latches sized to Fortress posts. Pool Gate Latch narrows that to the magnetic safety latches used on pool gates: MagnaLatch and Locinox Fortima.
Gate Locks and Magnetic Gate Locks
Gate Locks holds keyed and code locks: Locinox surface mounted and insert locks, cylinders and code locks such as Vinci, Valentino and Volta, and Gatemaster bolt-on, weld-in and mortise locks, including Superlock and SelectPro code locks that need no power. Magnetic Gate Locks holds Locinox electromagnetic locks for access control on swing and sliding gates.
Gate Keep, Gate Handle and Gate Adapter
- Gate Keep: the strike on the post that the lock bolt closes into, plus Gatemaster security keeps, shrouds and electric releases.
- Gate Handle: Locinox handle pairs, push bars, pull sets and childproof knobs, and Gatemaster handles on a 5/16" square spindle.
- Gate Adapter: plates, cases and clamps that fit a lock, keep or closer to a round post, a flat profile or a barred fence.
Gate Drop Bolt
Gate Drop Bolt holds the bolts that pin the passive leaf of a double gate: Locinox Keydrop and Suby, Gatemaster auto-locking and locking drop bolts, the Fortress Versai Pro Series drop rod and the AES Tomalok electric gate bolt with a 5.9" throw for access control systems.
More parts in this category
The category also lists the parts around the gate: ground stops and hold-back catches, keysafes, safety cables for gates up to 1,100 lb, SlimStone keypads, power supplies and transformers, GateSwitch position detection, LED lighting for fences and gates, and Turnitec turnstile mechanisms and modules.
How to choose gate hardware
- Gate material: steel, aluminum, wood and vinyl gates each have their own hinges and latches; D&D names the gate material for each TruClose and KwikFit model.
- Profile size: Locinox insert locks are named for the profile they fit, such as Fortylock for profiles from 1-9/16", and Gatemaster bolt-on locks come in two frame sizes.
- Weight and width: check the rated gate weight of hinges and closers against your gate.
- Weld or bolt: weld-on hinges give a steel joint, bolt-on hinges and surface mounted locks fit without welding.
- Safety rules: most US pool codes ask for self-closing, self-latching gates in a barrier at least 48" high; check the local code.
Ordering and delivery
Gate hardware is delivered to every US state and to Canada. A part shown without a price on its product page is sold on request: ask for a quote with the part numbers or a description of your gate.
Frequently asked questions
What hardware do I need for a metal gate?
A pair of hinges, a latch or lock with its keep and handles, and, if the gate must shut by itself, self-closing hinges or a gate closer. Double gates also need a drop bolt.
What is the difference between a latch and a lock?
A latch holds the gate shut each time it closes; a lock adds a key or a code so only authorized people can open it. Many products, such as LokkLatch, do both.
Do I need a gate closer or self-closing hinges?
Self-closing hinges combine hanging and closing in one part for light and medium gates; a separate hydraulic closer controls the speed on heavier gates or where the gate must not slam.
Which hardware is used on a pool gate?
Self-closing hinges, such as TruClose with a safety cap, and a self-latching magnetic latch such as MagnaLatch or Locinox Fortima; always check your local pool code.
Can I fit gate hardware without welding?
Yes. Bolt-on hinges such as the Shut It Bolt-On BadAss, surface mounted locks and screw-on self-closing hinges all fit without welding.
Which brands do you carry?
Locinox, Gatemaster, D&D Technologies, Fortress and AES Global, with matching parts within each brand's system.
